Ancient Distillation Wisdom • Modern Indian Haute Parfumerie
Centify was founded to preserve and elevate the living aromatic heritage of India—uniting four centuries of wood-fired hydro-distillation in copper cauldrons with contemporary French perfumery precision.
Kannauj: The Sacred Grasse of the Subcontinent
Nestled on the fertile banks of the Ganges in Uttar Pradesh, the ancient city of Kannauj has preserved uninterrupted perfumery traditions since the reign of Emperor Harsha in the 7th century.
While global commercial perfumery shifted to high-speed chemical synthesizers and vacuum fractionation in the 20th century, Kannauj distillers quietly safeguarded wood-fired copper hydro-distillation. Centify bridges this ancient alchemy with modern wearability.
The Deg-Bhapka Hydro-Distillation Ritual
How master distillers capture delicate florals without scorching.
Copper Cauldron Loading
Handpicked blossoms or baked clay are poured into hand-beaten copper Degs with pure groundwater.
Silt Mud Hermetic Seal
The lid is sealed with wet cotton fabric and river silt mud, which hardens under heat into an airtight organic seal.
Curved Bamboo Transit
Steam gently ascends through hollow curved bamboo pipes wrapped in twine, preventing metallic corrosion.
Cold Sandalwood Absorption
The copper receiver sits in a cold water pool, gently absorbing condensed aromatic vapors into base oil.
The Miracle of Mitti Attar:
The Scent of Parched Earth Quenched by Rain.
Before the onset of the northern monsoons, Kannauj artisans dig clean alluvial topsoil from riverbanks. The clay is shaped into small terracotta discs (Khapra) and baked under blistering summer heat.
These baked discs are placed directly into the copper Degs. As gentle steam passes through, it extracts the exact scent of the first rainfall hitting parched summer earth—chemically known as geosmin—anchored onto pure cold-pressed sandalwood.
Explore Pure Mitti Attar →Our Botanical Provenance
We source raw harvest exclusively where botanicals evolve with greatest potency.
Mongra Grade Saffron
Handpicked crimson stigmas yielding deep golden honey facets and rich leathery spice.
Santalum Album
Legally auctioned, government-regulated heartwood aged over 15 years for meditative creaminess.
Rosa Damascena
Harvested between 4:00 AM and 7:00 AM before sunlight evaporates delicate essential oils.
Wild Aquilaria Agallocha
Naturally resinous infected heartwood steam-extracted for smooth, smoky, non-barnyard oud.
Traditional Soul, Modern Laboratory Safety
Historic attars occasionally contained unregulated natural compounds or heavy fixatives that caused skin sensitization. Centify subjects every distillation batch to Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis.
Our creations are 100% compliant with International Fragrance Association (IFRA) 51st Amendment standards, cruelty-free, and packaged in lead-free pharmaceutical grade glass flacons.
Zero Phthalates & Toxic Fixatives
All spray products use denatured organic neutral grain alcohol rather than chemical propellants. Pure attars contain strictly zero alcohol or mineral oil diluents.
Protecting Kannauj's Heritage Families
Sustaining multi-generational distilling knowledge through fair patronage.
Fair Artisan Compensation
We bypass middle traders, paying 35% above market rates directly to Kannauj still operators and Kashmiri saffron growers.
Reusable Glass Heirlooms
Our heavy flint-glass flacons are refillable and designed to live as permanent dressing-table ornaments rather than single-use trash.
Apprenticeship Revival
Centify funds junior apprenticeships in Kannauj, training the next generation of master hydro-distillers in sensory temperature control.
